The game guide

THE GAME OF A TRILLION WORLDS

You have been given the opportunity to join the ranks of the wizard-warriors, those who are destined to divide the history of our earth in half. As part of your initiation, if you should choose to join us, you will be tasked to achieve mastery of The Game of a Trillion Worlds, a game that has certainly been played in much the same way, on worlds too numerous to count and too ancient to imagine. You are skeptical; but you are curious—so you have decided to investigate the game. The goal of the game is to distinguish yourself as one capable of heroic participation in the coming logopolemos, the great and immanent war of words that will determine the future of the earth. But you must know at the beginning that though this is the goal of the game, there is a higher goal that the greatest of you will at some point come to adopt as your own—this is the goal to promote Truth, even when that requires you to admit error. And the instant that the one who has played the game comes to adopt this new goal, what has been a game will become a pseudogame.

The Panoply

THE PANOPLY: THE STORY OF EVOLUTION ON EARTH, COSMOLOGICAL, GEOLOGICAL, BIOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL

(The book's sections on cosmological, geological and biological evolution are in the form of a graphic novel)

The premise of this book is that the history of evolution on earth is the history of the development in the egg, Gaiaon, of the great person, the colossus, Helios. Therefore, this is far from a standard account of the history of evolution on earth.

Evolution on earth is nearing its final phase. Imagine that you are a wizard-warrior known as the Logician. As the terrible spectral colossus, the monster named PoMo, draws near to the realm, and when her movement, like a crash of thunder, terrifies the non-initiates of the land, you calmly return to your chamber and arrange your cards according to their signs, and write your proto-claims on the pages of your Thorn notebook—in doing these things you are preparing your weapons for the coming war, the coming Logopolemos, against the monster.

You and the other wizard-warriors have already banded together to pursue a great quest, the quest of bringing about the birth of the colossus, Helios, who, once he is born, will bestow upon mankind a Golden Age of happiness and abundance, and it is written that, in order to accomplish this goal, you must compete amongst one another, in matches, to secure the emblems of Truth; and then you must go to the Precinct of the Engine and have the scribes write the Truth that you have found into the book that is kept there. But it is Truth, and Truth alone, that will destroy the monster, and it is because of the power that Helios, once born, will have to reveal truth, and because of the wizard-warriors' quest to bring Helios out of the egg, that PoMo fears Helios and the wizard-warriors alike, and seeks to destroy them. As a wizard-warrior, then, your goal is to distinguish yourself in the Truth-revealing matches in order to nurture Helios and to help crush PoMo.

It is interesting to note that though the immediate quest of the wizard-warriors will be to bring Helios to term in order that he may create for us the Golden Age on earth, there is a deeper, more unexpected and more incredible, evolutionary telos, which I introduce at the end of the book. The tale of the "Macrorotators of Asteri" is at once the most speculative yet the potentially most compelling (perhaps even the most seminal) part of the story.

This, then, is the hidden drama that is, even this very day, taking place in our world, a cosmic play that is almost completely hidden from the people of the earth. This drama, with its cast of incredible-but-real characters—the colossus Helios, mysterious Maia, the monster PoMo and the heroic wizard-warriors—the whole phenomenon of Helios' emergence from the egg called Gaiaon, is like America's Grand Canyon, whose sublime grandeur, the very presence of the immense structure, is invisible to us until we find ourselves at its rim. Similarly, once we make, in our thoughts, one small change of perspective, we will have positioned ourselves to perceive the drama that is the birth of Helios.

The reader of my book will discover that the battle to preserve and extend free and abundant speech in the public sphere, to champion reason and absolute truth, is actually compelled by unseen cosmic currents—and the resolution of this battle will change our world for the better, radically and forever.
